The Travel Honeymoon Honeymoon is not a simple holiday tour, but the most important romantic journey a couple makes, marking the beginning of a new stage in their lives. It is the first opportunity where husband and wife leave the day-to-day to enjoy this experience that has start date, but it has to end.
There are several versions transmitted orally, as originated on the honeymoon. One is that in ancient Rome, the people scattered drops of honey on the threshold of the house of the newlyweds. Another says that among the Germanic peoples, it was customary to marry in the new moon, and the newlyweds took a mixture of water and honey, called mead, drinking in the moonlight.
The oldest is two thousand years before Christ, in Babylon, the bride's father in-law offered to mead to be consumed in 30 immediately following the wedding when the bride and groom celebrated only among them, the marriage union days. At the time, the counting of days was made by the lunar calendar, which is why this period of celebration became known as "honeymoon".
In Western culture, the custom of a newlywed couple go on holiday together originated in early 19th century Britain, a borrowed concept the Indian elite. Couples upper class of India would have a "bridal tour", sometimes accompanied by friends or family to visit relatives who could not attend the wedding. The practice soon spread to the European continent.
Honeymoon in the modern sense (ie a romantic holiday trip undertaken by the couple) became widespread during the Belle Époque, as an early example of modern mass tourism.
The destinations of the most popular honey moon to travel at the time were the French Riviera and Italy, particularly romantic cities like Rome, Venice and Verona. Today this has changed and with snow or beach destinations are the most popular.
Usually the trip honeymoon begins the night of the wedding, with the couple leaving in the middle of the reception to catch a plane or ship. However, nowadays many couples mark the honeymoon trip for 1-3 days after the ceremony and reception, or even a week later, so just enjoy more of the wedding party and have a peaceful night's nuptials before undertaking a long journey.
Many couples prefer to live a honeymoon honeymoon at a resort with all inclusive, which only need to worry about living happy days. The options are endless, choose a resort and good riddance.
